This is a specification

This page lists the curriculum as specified in version 1.0 of the curriculum document, dated September 23, 2026. The modules themselves are not yet available to learners.

Levels and hours

Each level ends in a capstone case that certifies it. Minutes are budgeted activity by activity, and the passive and active columns add up to the total for every row. How the minutes are classified is explained on the product page.

Built on how Canadian SMEs are financed

Most credit courses on the market are written for a generic institution under US GAAP or IFRS. Canadian small-business files look different, and the adjustments a lender makes are different too.

  • ASPE first. Most owner-managed Canadian companies report under Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises. The course teaches the ASPE points that change a credit view: retractable preferred shares from an estate freeze shown in equity, operating leases kept off the balance sheet, the taxes payable method, and related-party rent and management fees.
  • Three levels of assurance. An audit, a review engagement (CSRE 2400) and a compilation (CSRS 4200) give a banker different things to rely on, and the cases use all three.
  • Security law by province. The Personal Property Security Acts in the common-law provinces, and hypothecs under the Civil Code of Québec, published at the RDPRM. The Québec content is taught in both languages, because an English-speaking banker can hold a Québec file.
  • Crown claims. Unremitted source deductions are held in a deemed trust that can rank ahead of a secured lender. Three cases contain a CRA exposure the learner has to find.
  • Real market conditions. US duties on softwood lumber, China's 2025 tariff on Canadian peas, succession in family businesses, and seasonal tourism. Conditions are dated in each case so a reviewer can check them.

Where an institution's own policy applies, such as its minimum debt service coverage, its risk-rating scale or its credit memo template, the course teaches the reasoning with an illustrative default and switches to the institution's value during implementation. The course never presents a default as your policy.

The case studies

Seven companies, seven provinces. Every company and person is fictional. Before production each name is checked against the federal corporations database and the provincial registries, including Québec's Registraire des entreprises, and changed if it matches an active business. Two cases come back later with new facts, so learners live with the consequences of the structure they chose.

Optional track: business acumen

Seven modules on the entrepreneur's business rather than the loan: business models and strategy, reading financial and non-financial signals, operating performance, the economy and sectors, value creation and decision-making. It ends in a three-year business simulation for a fictional furniture maker in Saguenay. The track uses the same platform, reporting and assessment rules, and it is priced separately. See pricing.

How content stays current

Every module, case and question carries a version number, with both languages under the same number so they cannot drift apart. Each quarter, a market and regulatory scan updates case assumptions and produces a new case for the quarterly clinic. Each year, every module is reviewed in full, including its measured practical share, and at least 20% of each question pool is replaced.

Clients get 60 days' notice of a major change, such as a new pass rule or a retired module, and can test it in their non-production environment first. Minor changes come with 30 days' notice. A factual error that could mislead a credit judgment is reported within two business days of discovery. Content updates are included in the subscription.
