The credit adjudicator: approval inside a limit
You never met the borrower. That distance is the product: judgment on the file, not on the relationship.
The job
You sit outside the sales line and hold an authority in dollars. Inside it you approve, condition or decline; above it you write the referral and say what is missing. The file has to stand without the account manager in the room.
What lands on the desk
- The memo
- Read for what it does not say: the risk paragraph the writer softened, the security assumed rather than confirmed.
- The policy
- Limits, sector caps, security requirements, pricing floors. The file is measured against the book, not against other borrowers.
- The conditions
- What has to be true before the money moves: registrations, insurance, guarantees, reporting.
- The referral
- Above your authority, your job is a complete file and a real question, not a pass-along.
What this role decides
- Approve, condition or decline inside the delegated authority.
- Which conditions attach — and which can be waived when the lender pushes back.
- When a rating in the memo does not match the file you just read.
Training that fits
- Level 3 and up
- Adjudication work sits at levels 3 and 4: restructuring, sector stress, the files that split a committee.
- CA-403
- Reviewing and challenging a file — the module written for your desk, not the writer’s.
- The committee simulation
- CA-307 puts you on the other side of the table, defending a call against challenge for 240 minutes.
What is missing today
No adjudication module is delivered yet. The pathway above is a specification, not an enrolment.
